Commission opens in-depth investigation into Inco, Falconbridge merger

The commission has found similar problems in the super-alloys market that were raised in the U.S., and has also expressed concern about the company's ownership of as-yet-undeveloped resource assets. The latter problem, at least, should be easily solvable by sales of rights. The company's declared intention to sell Falconbridge’s Nikkelverk refinery in Norway, certain related marketing organizations and provide arms-length refinery capacity to interemediaries evidently wasn't enough to sway the commmission. The decision deadline is July 12...
