Indonesia to legalize motorcycle taxis as public transport

( March 31, 2017, 04:57 GMT | Insight) -- The Indonesian government and the House of Representatives, or DPR, have agreed to include motorcycle taxis as part of public transport following their widespread use in transporting consumers using app-based taxi-hailing services, the Jakarta Globe reports. The legalization will be done through an amendment to Law No. 22 of 2009 on traffic and road transport. The move would establish a solid legal basis for the government to control the mode of transport, according to Nurhayati Monoarfa, a member of the DPR's Commission V, which oversees transportation. Currently, the law considers motorcycles as not complying with public transport safety and comfort standards. It also prohibits individuals from providing public transport services. ...
