US indictments unsealed against eight men accused of defrauding global digital ad industry

( November 27, 2018, 23:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Department of Justice has unsealed indictments against eight men accused of defrauding the digital advertising industry by programming computers they controlled to load advertisements on fabricated webpages to fraudulently harvest digital advertising revenue. Three defendants — Sergey Ovsyannikov, Aleksandr Zhukov and Boris Timokhin — have been arrested outside the US and are awaiting extradition. The other five defendants remain at large, with all facing charges of wire fraud, computer intrusion, aggravated identity theft and money laundering. "As alleged, these individuals built complex, fraudulent digital advertising infrastructure for the express purpose of misleading and defrauding companies who believed they were acting in good faith, and costing them millions of dollars," said William F. Sweeney Jr., assistant director-in-charge of the FBI's New York field office....
