US Representatives tell FCC not to lift cap on TV station ownership

( February 20, 2026, 20:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Four members of the US House of Representatives wrote a letter to the Federal Communications Commission expressing their opposition to any commission effort to modify or waive the standing statutory limits on broadcast television consolidation. When Congress wrote the 2004 Consolidated Appropriations Act prohibiting any one company from owning TV stations reaching more than 39 percent of Americans, they did it with clear intent: no single company should be allowed to dominate what Americans see, hear and pay for on local television, they said.See attached letter....
