FIFA has defended its ban on third parties "owning" soccer players’ financial rights, arguing that the practice makes "victims" of the players and undermines the integrity of the game. Soccer’s global governing body was in the Belgian Court of Appeal today, fending off accusations that its ban is anticompetitive. FIFA’s lawyer said there are plenty of other ways for third parties to invest in the sport.
